Located on the German side of the border of Germany and Austria, the village of Berchtesgaden is home to beautiful peaks and views.  It’s easy to understand why Adolf Hitler chose this location for his mountain retreat; but today’s Berchtesgaden possesses the same charm that existed in the 1930s, without all the…fascism.

While Hitler’s “Eagle’s Nest” (now a restaurant, beer hall, and tourist attraction) was closed for renovations, we still were able to take in some views on Mount Jenner in Berchtesgaden National Park.  Just take the Jennerbahn cable car up the mountain and drink in the sights.  It’s a truly remarkable experience that was easily my favorite adventure of this trip.
