Last day in Thailand!

Hi everyone! Many apologies for the delay in blog posts! We have been on safari in the southern portion of South Africa near Mozambique… so needless to say- no wifi! We have much to catch you up on, and will get you up to speed over the next few posts. Also, for any worry about the 5.5 earthquake you may have heard about, it centered in the far northwest corner near Namibia and we are in the southeast, probably the distance of Florida to NY… So no worries at all! Now let’s get back to Thailand!

Once again we had been hoping to take an excursion on our last day in Thailand, but we still weren’t feeling 100%. (Was it the quasi-chicken? We will never know.) In the Krabi region, there are a few really great day trips you can take like the Emerald pool, the famous hot springs, and Hong Island. But considering how we were feeling, it seemed the proper course of conduct to stay ‘local’. But there was so much still to see on our island, we really weren’t missing out.

Just a short stroll from our beach bungalow, we went to see the Phra Nang caves.

Just past the caves, was the ‘vista hike’. I was assured by a local man that anyone could do this hike (really it was a climb) in bare feet, which was good as I didn’t have room to pack my hiking sneakers or hiking sandals. So we took off our flippies, and attacked that climb like a spider monkey!

Many parts of it were completely vertical and you had to use every finger and every toe to steady yourself!

And once at the top, you were able to see the two beaches that make up Railay Beach.

After you reach the top, one could opt to return, or climb down to see a lagoon in the center of the island surrounded by sheer rock face. Now this also was easy, as per the local man, but it absolutely did NOT seem like a good idea. But you could see a portion of it off in the distance, and it was milky turquoise in color- breathtaking!

After getting muddy and gnarly, just a shirt walk and we took a dip in Phra Nang Bay.

Tomorrow we leave Thailand… And hello South Africa! So let’s do the shopping cart and get outta here!

  1. Great to hear from you guys. Looks like you would need a podiatrist or at the least a pedicure after climbing that mountain! Thank goodness for the shopping cart! Love your photos

    • I don’t need a pedicure anymore, the ladies come up to you on the beach and offer one! They looked at my soles after the hike and kept saying “Bad. Bad. Very rough!” So they did a scrub treatment for like $3 and they are now feet appropriate for public display!
